Imagination Station room curriculum:

Block Area
  • Math: Counting, measuring, comparison, matching, one-to-one correspondence
  • Science: Balance, physics of inclines (ramps), shapes, volume
  • Creativity: 3-dimensional art (castles, roads, buildings)
  • Social/Emotional: Self-esteem, cooperation, understanding other's views
Group Time
  • Knowledge: Books, math, drama, show and tell
  • Large motor: Dancing, singing, marching, chanting
  • School knowledge: Turn-taking, listening, following directions, and participation in a group
  • Social/Emotional: “I am part of a community of learners,” “I am part of play group,” “I am important”
Art
  • Creativity: New ways of designing, considering things from new perspectives
  • Science: Color mixing, understanding adhesives (it sticks!)
  • Math: One-to-one, patterning (math is patterns) comparisons
  • Small motor skills: Pasting, gluing, painting, using scissors, etc.
  • Social/Emotional: Self-esteem (“look what I made”), the joy of discovery (“I didn't know I could make that”)
Manipulatives
  • Small motor: Put together/pull apart (puzzles), eye-hand coordination, comparisons, part and whole of objects
  • Knowledge: Facts about how thing work and about the world (multicultural puzzles)
  • Math: Patterns, one-to-one correspondence, matching, number symbol recognition (real number matched to symbol number, e.g., dominos, matching-card games, puzzles), shapes
Gym/Outside
  • Large motor: Strength, balance coordination, skill
  • Science: Facts and enjoyment of nature (nature walks and collecting things that occur in the world around them)
  • Social/Emotional: “I can achieve,” self-esteem in physical abilities, participate in group physical activities
Play
  • Pure Learning (See the opening quote)
  • Trying new things and ideas
  • Types of play: Sensory (water/sand table), skill mastery, social, dramatic

7:00–8:00 Welcome/Meet in Explorers Room

8:00–9:15 Move to Imagination Station. Small Group Activities—legos, books, puzzles, train, and water table

9:15–9:45 Change Diapers / Wash Hands/ Snack / Free Play

9:45–10:00 Clean Up / Circle Name Song, Movement & Stories / Alphabet Show and Tell

10:00–11:00 Small Group Projects/Activities, manipulative & sensory tables, computers, blocks, housekeeping, easel, water table.

11:05–11:15 Clean Up

11:15–12:00 Outside / Gym

12:00–1:00 Lunch

1:00–3:00 Nap Time

3:00-4:15 Wake Up / Change Diapers / Put Cots Away, Get on Socks and Shoes

3:15–4:00 Snack / Table Activities

4:00–4:15 Clean Up / Story

4:15–5:00 Small Group Activities, Play Dough, Sand Table

5:00–5:45 Outdoor or Gym / Change Diapers
